SkillCell develops the first rapid urine test to screen for insulin resistance.
The test takes the form of gel beads to be placed in a urine sample taken after a fasting period, typically on the morning. The results can be read after a few minutes and take the form of a color change.
Insulin resistance is a medical condition in which cells fail to respond normally to the hormone insulin. It develops typically with overweight and is a key factor in the development of type 2 diabetes. Nevertheless, unlike type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance is reversible with an appropriate diet and exercise. Diagnosing insulin resistance early is considered today as one of the major tools to fight the outbreak of type 2 diabetes in the world. Nevertheless, current methods do not allow for large screening campaigns as tests require blood samples and fully equipped laboratories.
SkillCell innovative tests for insulin resistance, thanks to their high performance and simplicity of use, make individual testing as well as large scale screening campaign possible.
SkillCell test for insulin resistance is expected to obtain CE marking in 2019.
