Mosquito detection

Mosquito-borne diseases are dramatically spreading, due to growing urbanization, human movement, and climate change. Tropical countries are highly exposed to these diseases, but others regions like Europe or the United States are experiencing an increasing number of mosquito-borne diseases human cases.
In particular, Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquito species have the ability to carry and transmit diseases to humans such as Chikungunya, Zika, Dengue and Yellow fever, causing millions of deaths.
Global surveillance and control efforts must be made to mitigate the spread of these diseases and ensure that human health is protected. To this end, mosquito control institutions and research facilities are facing unmet needs for in-field characterization and identification tools, still relying on morphological identification or heavy laboratory analysis.
That's why SkillCell is working on the development of a reliable test to detect mosquito eggs / larvae directly onsite. The objective is to improve ecological monitoring of mosquito populations and to strategically target the locations to treat.
Our test is expected to be commercialized in 2024.
By 2050, half the world's population could be at risk of mosquito-borne diseases like dengue fever or the Zika virus.
